Taking Good Care of Your Hard Wood Floor With Wax Finish

The best advantage of having hard wood floor is that you don't have to worry about allergens getting trapped like they do in carpet. Cleaning the floor at least twice a week using the right vacuum cleaner, sweeper, dry mop and wood floor cleaner, keeps the floor from abrasive build up and keeps its shine much longer.

If stains find its way to your floor, clean it right away. This will prevent the substance from staining the hard wood floor and saves you the hassle of having to remove the stain later on. To clean the stain on the floor use a hot water, a clean cloth and a cleaning solution that is suited for hard wood floors. Do not use abrasive cleaners as it will damage the coating of the floor.

Maintenance Guide for Waxed Finish Hard Wood Floors

If vacuum cleaning, mopping or sweeping does not make your wax finish floor shiny again, buffing it is your next best choice. Buffing should be done first before you apply a second coat. Often times you would not need a new layer to coat after buffing. If buffing does not make your floor shiny, you'll have to use a liquid wax for wood floors and a wood floor cleaner. Apply the wax to the floor and buff it after it dries.

In removing stains from waxed finish floors, here are some tips that you can follow:

Ink stains and water Stains- to remove this type of stain use a #000 steel wool. If it won't work try using a sand paper with fine grain together with a wood floor cleaner and a #00 steel wool. After that make sure you wax and buff the area.

Common Surface Marks- common scratches and marks on the surface of your wax finish floor can be adhered by applying wax on the area. Buff the area to restore its shine.

Food stains- In cleaning this type of stain use a damp cloth and start cleaning on the outer surface of the stain and move your way inside. After removing the stain see to it that you dry and wax it afterwards.

Sticky Stains- harden the stain by applying a cold pack of ice. When the stain hardens it should crumble off of the floor. Use a rag or cloth to clean the stain off.

Furthermore, to avoid unwanted scratches on your floor, never drag heavy equipment and furniture across your waxed floor. Also, if your kitchen and bath room floors are made of wax coated hardwood floors, place a rug directly below the sink and on the door step of the bathrooms.

Although the stain eradication guide may be simple, it ought to help avoid some fairly common and costly DIY stain elimination damage. Regrettably, there can never be a guarantee of total removal of a stain, but the appropriate routine will give your expert cleaner, when called in, the best probable chance of success.

REMEMBER: Act Swiftly. Clean up solids, soak up fluids. Take a good deal of time, it is worth the energy. Blend the solution correctly and check it on an out of the way piece of carpet. Always work from the external fringe of the mark to the middle. Pat or blot instead of scrubbing or rubbing. And, most significantly, NEVER OVER-WET.

Water Based Penetrating Concrete Sealer

A water-based penetrating concrete sealer is the best option available for filling in gaps between bricks, coating concrete surfaces, and providing a semi-gloss finish to certain parts of your home. This form of protection gives full coverage, so you can ensure that your driveway or pathway will stay in top condition. It will be protected against the harmful ultraviolet rays of the sun that cause fading. It will also be protected against foot traffic, liquid spills, and growth of weeds.

Nothing can be more frustrating than having a driveway or pathway with cracks and tiny holes. Things like this may seem trivial which is why a lot of homeowners ignore it. However, seemingly unimportant things like this can turn into worse situations. A little crack on your driveway can be bigger in the next few months, making the surface uneven. As a result, you will not be able to drive your car properly into the safety of your garage or out the gate.

Likewise, a small gap between the bricks on your pathway may seem alright for some people. You may even find that quite adorable. Then again, you should be aware that these small gaps could be the birthplace of weeds that will eventually damage your pathway. If you do not coat your pathway with a concrete sealer, it will not be protected against weeds and fungi. Mold and mildew can even grow on it, putting the health of your family at risk.

When buying a concrete sealer on the market, you should choose the water based type. Water based concrete sealer is environmentally acceptable which means that it does not contain ingredients that may be harmful to the environment. Once dry, you may dispose it along with the other trash in your house. Just place it in the garbage bin. Do not worry about its effect on the environment. There is no special disposal required not like with the other types of sealants.

Water based penetrating sealers have a clear, water repellent, and non silicone coating, which is why it is able to protect the exteriors of both low porosity and medium porosity materials. This concrete sealer neither scratches nor peels, but strips off easily when you want to replace it. It can provide adequate protection even with minimal maintenance. Hence, you can be rest assured that your home will still look great after many, many years.

Moreover, concrete sealing may be used as a primer for waterborne finishes to increase their performance and durability. You may apply it over cured coatings, as well as on the surfaces of bricks. As a result, your bricks will have a glossy appearance. Its vibrant red color will also last for a long time. It will not fade or crack. It will stay in good shape despite being exposed to varying weather conditions for years.

Water based penetrating concrete sealer is also breathable. This means that it allows moisture to escape, making your driveway or pathway less prone to cracks. After years of usage, your driveway or pathway will collect moisture from rain, snow, or spills. Fortunately, this concrete sealer does not allow efflorescence to be trapped.

Five Tips in Finding a Good House Cleaning Service

Finding a good and trustworthy house cleaning service can sometimes be difficult. Generally, one finds a house cleaner from a friend, a friend of a friend, or someone who knows where these good services are found. Well, you get the picture. And it always seems like the first time the new cleaning service cleans, the house looks perfect. Then there are the odd occasions when the quality can go down. Here are some tips to help you find good service, which ensures that they keep doing the job you want.

Tip One: Don't just go with the first company you meet. For some reason, many people are uncomfortable interviewing service workers. It feels very personal, especially if you're meeting the actual person who may be cleaning your home or apartment. Even if you've gotten a stellar recommendation from someone you absolutely know and trust, you still need to meet and interview at least two firms or individuals. Ask how long they've been in the business, how many people they have cleaned for and how were they hired by the people they work with.

Tip Two: Get four references, and make sure you call them. This is another one of those things that we sometimes feel is too much work to do, but it really is crucial. When speaking to the person, you need to be specific in your questions, such as why would you recommend this person? This question form will force them to give you reasons. The other key question to ask is what would be the one thing that you would change about the way they clean your home? This gives the individual the opportunity to be critical without being negative. Sometimes, this is the most enlightening part of the conversation.

Tip Three: Give the firm a try. Now this may seem like a waste of time. Won't they do their very best job on this first cleaning? Yes, they should, as you can sense what their very best is. If after this first cleaning you find there are problem areas, then they're probably not the firm for you.

Tip Four: At the first cleaning, be sure to do a walk through with the service to find out what they use or recommend on different surfaces. Although most companies use similar products, it is good to let them know of special requests ahead of time. This little walk around could also tell if the person does not seem to know what to use. It can be an indicator of inexperience or lack of attention to detail.

Tip Five: Be critical. When reviewing the cleaning work, make note of anything you find unacceptable or uncertain. Again, don't be shy about giving honest feedback. Most people have little individual pet peeves regarding their house cleaning, so these need to be addressed. If the service doesn't consistently measure up, move on. A good, conscientious service will know what is important to their customers where they will make sure that those things are consistently handled.

Keep these tips in mind when hiring and you'll have a much better chance of getting a quality cleaning service.

Carpet Cleaning On Your Own - Are You Sure It's A Good Idea?

If you have a lot of carpets at home then you will have to give the subject of carpet cleaning some thought. You definitely have to ensure that they are kept as clean as possible and this will only happen if you have a regular schedule for cleaning them. If your rugs and other floor coverings are not cleaned well then there is a chance that they will begin to harbor fungus and molds. They will also smell a lot.

The problem is that carpet cleaning is a very cumbersome job especially if you have quite a few of them at home. You need to go over every part of them carefully in order to remove ingrained dirt. You also need to wash them regularly in order to get them as clean as possible. This strenuous job is generally beyond the capabilities of most people which is why it is a good idea for you to get professional help instead.

A professional carpet cleaner will ensure that all dirt is removed from the rugs. In fact, the cleaners will have detailed knowledge about how exactly to get rid of specific kinds of dirt. If there is dust on the rugs then it generally needs to be vacuumed out. Grease or food stains need to be cleaned with special detergents. Once the rugs are cleaned well with water then they need to be dried properly so that there is no chance of them attracting mold.

Professional carpet cleaning can be quite expensive especially if you have a large number of these rugs to get cleaned. This could be one reason why you might want to clean them yourself even though it will take a lot of effort on your part. However, there are certain steps you could take to bring the cost down of cleaning the carpets and can therefore afford to get professional help for your floor coverings.

You will be very glad to have clean carpets at home because they will smell and look very good. They will also last very long since it is a well-known fact that the presence of dirt particles will cut the fibers of the carpet, leading to holes in them in the long term. All you have to therefore do is identify a really good company that will clean your carpets for you at a very reasonable price so that you don't have to do it yourself.

Listing Out Priority Tasks for a Maid

People require a maid for a variety of different reasons. Some need their home sanitized from the baseboards to the ceiling fans. Others are just looking for a little help maintaining a clean home on a regular basis. In either situation, it is not always easy to interpret what a specific customer needs done. Making a list of tasks in order of their importance can be a helpful communication tool.

Start With the Basics

A maid traditionally offers a basic set of services for every home. The cost of the service typically depends on the size of the home and the amount of work that needs to be done. These tasks are often listed on the website or a business's paperwork presented to the customer.

Look over the list and figure out what things on the list are the most important. Are there some things that really don't need to be done? Are there other things that need to take precedence over the other tasks? Use the original maid's list as a guide and begin making changes.

Extra Services Offered

If your home needs a window cleaning, it is possible to ask the maid to handle this task. Again, check the company's website to see a list of extra services that may be offered. Homeowners often see this as an opportunity to save money. If someone is already coming to the house to clean, it makes sense to pay a little extra and have the work done by professionals. Hiring another company means bringing in a whole new set of workers along with the added expense.

Make a list of the added services that you need completed. Remember to list the things that are most important to you at the top and as time permits, the cleaners will get as far as they can on the list. You also have the option to ask that all of the work on the list be completed without worrying about the amount of time they spend in the home.

Above and Beyond

Sometimes, the lack of housework has let things get out of hand. In these instances, a maid may need to spend several hours in a home. If this is the case, a list can be helpful but also unnecessary. If you are paying to have all of the work completed, regardless of the amount of time it takes, you can trust that everything you need will be completed.

Getting some extra help around the house can make your life easier. For many homeowners, there is nothing better than walking into a home and instantly smelling the clean, fresh air. By making a list of the most important tasks ensures that your expectations are met and you are satisfied with the work being performed.

Maintain the Beauty of Your Carpet With These Tips

This article will give you several tips that should help keep your carpet in good shape and make it stay as beautiful as it should. The way we feel when we step into a house decorated with a clean and spotless carpet is indescribable. It is so pleasant to walk into a welcoming room. No one wants to walk into a room with a poorly kept carpet. This is because a poorly maintained carpet will have residue within its fabrics and some unpleasant odors. One of the biggest investments a homeowner will make would be purchasing a carpet, be it for the living room, bedrooms or even the car. The carpet is the furniture that portrays a person's home-keeping abilities. This article will certainly provide you with some tips that you can use to make your house ooze of freshness, cleanliness and health.

a- Start by choosing the right fabric for the carpet you need. You would want to check on the cleaning needs and the durability.

b- Make sure you buy a vacuum that is of great quality and is not just easy to handle or is a light cleaner.

c- I cannot emphasize how important it is to vacuum the carpet regularly.

d- Make it a point to take off your shoes before stepping on the carpet when you spend the day walking on asphalt.

e- Ensure that every spill is blotted out immediately and with a clean piece of cloth or towel.

There are only five tips mentioned in this article, but there are a million tips that work miracles when it comes to keeping your carpet looking beautiful and clean all the time. One thing I can recommend is to grow a close relationship with a professional in the field of carpet cleaning. This will make it easy for you to ask for professional advice without any extra charges. This closeness can work in your favor in many ways, such as receiving priority treatment as well as discounts on prices. A professional will put in great contributions in making sure the carpet has a long life.

In conclusion, you don't want to use cleaning products that are meant for the home to clean your carpet. This can cause irreparable damage to your carpet. Such products are not designed with carpets in mind. They are designed for use on clothes. Many carpets have been destroyed by the use of oxygenated products. To use these products on your carpet, you must ensure that they are properly extracted from the carpet fabrics after use. However, this can only be well done by industry professionals. The best way to get the proper treatment for your carpet would be to tell the cleaning professional everything that he must know. Every spill should be detailed in time and type. This will give the cleaner a chance to make an informed and good decision for the proper cleaning procedure.

Getting Rid of Mold and Mildew in Your Home

Mildew is the term given to various mold and fungi accumulation. It usually grows on a flat and moist surface. It is usually found in bathtubs, showers, attic, basement, curtains, leather couches, window sills, and many more. It is a bad sign if you see growing molds in your home. It signifies that there is imbalance. Mildew may damage the surface where it is growing through decomposition and staining. It can also be harmful to the health due to the spores it builds. Do not withstand the fact that it is not pleasing to look at and can give a bad smell in the house. There are lots of reasons why you should eliminate mold and mildew in your house. Removing the mold and mildew should be your first step followed by repairing the damage done, and finally, keeping your home free from mold and mildew.

How to remove and control mold build up:

Mold can grow in winter and summer months. During winter, the air in the house is moist which can result to mold accumulation. On summer months, mold still grows because of the high humidity level. You should keep your home free from mold anytime of the month by doing preventive guidelines.
Clean your bathroom. Mold grows tremendously in bathrooms. One best substance to use in cleaning molds in the bathroom is the vinegar. Spray or sprinkle vinegar in areas that are more likely to accumulate molds. These areas include under your faucet, bathroom shower curtains, tile grouts in the floor, and walls near the sink. You can also mop your floor with water and vinegar.
Clean other parts of your home. Your kitchen is also another favorite spot of molds. Food leftovers, gloomy spaces in the cupboards, dirt and oil spills during and after cooking and moisture on the tile surface are all causes of molds in the kitchen. Spray your dish drier and chopping board with vinegar and anything that have contact with food. Do these regularly to prevent bacteria and mold build up.
Use air conditioner during summer when it is humid and hot outside. Humidity is one factor for growing molds. Dust mites also grow on humid season. It is said that 65% to 70% of humid is essential for a growing mold. Using air conditioner doe not only give you cool air but also prevents mold as well. Maintain a temperature of 30% to 50% to ensure that mold will not grow anywhere in your home.
During winter where it is very cold, mold may still develop. Again, maintain a temperature of 30% to 50%. You may use a dehumidifier if you have one at home.
Carpets may increase the risk of developing molds in your house because they are susceptible to dirt and moisture. It can also bring in fleas and dust mites. You can either take off your carpet to avoid these problems or clean it with baking soda regularly.

How to remove mildew:

Mold and mildew are quite the same and because of this, the method of preventing them is quite the same also.
Avoid moisture in your home. Extreme moisture can not only cause mildew, it can also damage your structure especially wood and drywall materials. To avoid too much moist in your home, fix leaking faucets or sink. Check your pipes if there are broken lines. Use air conditioners and dehumidifiers as needed. Maintain the right temperature all over the house including the basement and attic.
Remove anything that was damaged by mildew. If something has been infested by mildew, take it as a whole right away. If the damaged thing is not removed, the mildew will further develop. Be careful in removing the object to prevent you from inhaling the spores of the mildew.
Clean and dry the surfaces in the house. Ensure that every part of the house is clean most importantly the bathroom and the kitchen where moist and dirt are always present. After cleaning the whole house, dry the surfaces to avoid moisture. Ensure also that there is proper ventilation all over the house to maintain the right temperature all throughout the year.

Clean Air Means Less House Cleaning and Dusting? Yep, Sure Does!

Does it seem like you're cleaning all the time? And every time you turn around, there's another layer of dust on that piece of furniture? Time for carpet cleaning...again?! Does house cleaning ever end??!!

Let's face it. Very few of us have time to constantly clean and dust. We're just too busy! Plus, in this economy, most of us don't have the extra money for house cleaning services, either! Where does this dust and dirt come from anyway?

Well, it's a combination of stuff we track in from outside, the dust from your ducts / air conditioner vents, and tiny particles that are released when our hands and feet rub across furniture, bedding, carpets, etc. The air that's moving inside the room picks up the particles and those particles settle on everything, and there you go-more dusting and cleaning to do. Ugh.

You mean having clean air can really help us keep up with our fast-paced lives, reduce house cleaning time and the cost of cleaning supplies? Absolutely. It just makes sense. If you can remove the particles from the air, then there will be less to settle and accumulate-in the corners, and in our noses! And you'll get the added benefit of feeling better, with less sneezing and coughing, or even asthma attacks. Don't forget, dust is very dirty stuff, composed of dirt, dead skin cells, dust mite/insect parts, pet dander, bacteria, viruses, pollen, mold spores and more. In a month or so, you'll be happy to notice that you just aren't buying as much cleaning supplies, cleaning services, Swiffer duster refills, carpet cleaning--and probably less allergy medications!

So how do we do clean up the air? All you need is a 1) a good allergy rated filter in your home a/c system, 1500 rating or higher, and 2) get a quality air purifier that can handle the amount of air in your home or room, and has a true HEPA filter, which will remove 99.97% or higher of the particles floating around. Be sure to change the air filter in your home at least every 3 months, and the HEPA filter in your air purifier as indicated by the manufacturer. And the air purifier will actually extend the life of the home air filter, too, so that's another cost reduction!

One very good air purifier we found that is very good for getting rid of dust is the Blueair 403 This unit features durable steel construction, a powerful HEPA filter that removes up to 99.99% of particles, healthy negative ions to further purify the air, and an available lifetime warranty. This will handle rooms 375 square feet and smaller.

For larger spaces, up to 1500 square feet, the Aller Air 5000 Exec works very well. This air purifier features a true HEPA filter, a pre-filter, and a full 18 pounds of activated carbon to remove chemical vapors and odors-vapors and odors that cause allergy attacks, headaches, and more! Got headaches that you can't put your finger on? It really could be in the air!

Both of these air purifiers will definitely reduce the need for house cleaning and dusting, and leave you more time for the important things like family and fun times.

As always, if you have any questions, give us a call at 1-800-701-2513. The expert staff at Air Purifiers and Cleaners.com is standing by to help.

Is Snow Shoveling Dangerous?

Snow shoveling used to be simple. Pick up a shovel and get to work clearing that driveway. These days it's much more complicated. Many new models have come to the market for manually clearing snow because of health risks. Several studies have been done recently that show a strong correlation between increased risk for heart attack and shoveling snow. For sources on this, simply search the web, where plenty of studies are outlined on credible websites such as ScienceDaily. Besides heart attacks, many other injuries are correlated, such as strokes, broken bones, injured neck and back, pulled muscles and even strained ligaments.

What's the science behind these studies? I mean really, how could snow shoveling lead to heart attacks? Well, it is usually done in bitter temperatures, and for those who are not exposed to strenuous workouts on a regular basis, shoveling can be a real shock to the heart, just like any other workout that you are unaccustomed to. Undergoing a strenuous workout with the addition of cold temperatures is what leads to increased strokes and heart attacks.
What does this mean for you? If you are older, it can be extremely dangerous and it is highly advised to find an alternative to conventional snow shoveling. There are a few easy alternatives to doing it yourself. Either have a younger friend or relative do it for you, or if that is unavailable, buy a snow shovel that will help lead to an easier, less exhausting experience. Buying smaller snow shovels and working at a slower pace is recommended, since that will lead less exhaustion than shoveling huge amounts of snow per shovel.

Since recent studies, there is a very important new shovel on the market named the "wovel." The wovel has been tested to be the safest snow shovel on the market because of its unique design. It is named the "wovel" because of the wheel the shovel rests on. It acts as a wheel barrow of some sorts, and allows people to move snow with much greater ease and efficiency. There are many other safety benefits to the wovel because of its design, and will overall reduce stress on your body.

Shoveling snow in the winter is a daunting task sometimes. We all know that aching feeling of looking at a menacing amount of snow to be cleared in your driveway. It's easy to grab the shovel and overexert yourself out in the cold, and I warn you against that. The last thing you want is suffering a major injury while spending some time outdoors in the snow. Once again, snow shoveling accidents are much more common than the average person would imagine, so take the necessary precautions by either buying a snow shovel that fits your needs or going at a slow and steady pace.

Becoming Educated About the Components and Attributes of a Filter Press

You will need an efficient filtration to keep the property spotless and secure. These equipment get rid of metal chips, burnt off carbons, other components from your main pipelines. What's more, it sustains the cleaning material of the principal valve and prevents water contamination. If you need to keep the water system spotless, make sure your filter press is doing the job.

What exactly is a filter press?
The purpose of this device is to fix the volume of water and keep its pressure when made use of. It secures and eliminates unwanted components in the pipe. In this process, the filter determines the amount of solids inside the system. For max purification, the press need to generate more pressure to get rid of the waste materials. A highly effective filter need to have its own pulp to improve the pipelines and dry the filtration.

Changing volume
The filter press additionally eliminates waste materials by using a filter plate generally known as diaphragm or membrane plane. This device has a variable drain-field, which absorbs solids as well as other waste materials. It's closed around the edges and forms an essential "bladder" or diaphragm, which can also inflate to spotless up the pipe system. This is very efficient in reducing the quantity of waste materials in the pipe. It can also minimize the normal elapsed time for a press cycle.

Parts of the filter: How do they do the job?
The two principal sections of the filter is the skeleton and the filter pack. The primary capability of the skeleton is to hold the filter pack together against the pressure developed during the filtration process. These sections are attached either by sidebars or overhead beams.

The filter pack is where the waste materials separation process takes place. It consists of a series of filter components that form chambers when held together in the press skeleton. Each chamber has a series of cylinders or "pips", covered by porous cloth to protect the head of the filter.

These pips form a cycle for the liquid draining from the press. There are also small holes in the drain-field to reduce waste materials and other components. When the plates are held together in a plate pack, the pips discharge the filtered water.

While filtering, the pressure in the chambers generates the flow of water in the pipe. It holds the head of the filter to make sure it eliminates the waste materials. The filter or cloth media then supports the structure for the filter cake when there is too much pressure.

Initially some waste materials may pass through the cloth media causing slight turbidity in the filtrate. This gradually removes larger particles and maintains the bridge of the pipelines.

What is dewatering sludge treatment?
This is another form of filtration. The most common method for dewatering sludge is to squeeze the water out of the sludge. You can also put the slight in a screen to spin the water out. One good example for this is the strainer. It prevents the solids/waste from entering the surface.

These are just some of the things you need to learn concerning filtration. Examine on-line or consult a professional to learn more details on unique filtering units.

Pipes and Home Cleaning 101

In order for you to stop having to clean your drains so much, you need to be careful about what you put down there. Some people are putting grease, hair and coffee grounds into the pipes. Add soap scum to this and you have not only a messy pipe system but a clogged one as well. Cooking grease should be put into a metal or plastic container and then disposed of in the trash can. Some communities also have special instructions regarding how to dispose of oil properly. Coffee grounds can either be thrown in the trash or used as mulch for your garden. You can purchase a drain holder that covers the drain and eliminate the problem of hair and soap scum blockages.

You should clean the pipes on a regular basis. This will help keep them running normally and will stop any nasty odors from developing. One home cleaning tip is to include running the hot water after each time you use the sink. Hot water will loosen up any clogs and make the pipes run smoothly. You can also use baking soda in the drain and then run some hot water after pouring it in the pipes to get rid of any offending odors. Another great method to clean your pipes is to empty a cup of vinegar down the drain and allow it to set for half an hour. Then turn on the hot water. Vinegar contains naturally occurring acid which helps to loosen up any sludge in your pipes.

If you find that your pipes are getting clogged on a regular basis, there are some things you can do to prevent this. In fact this little home cleaning trick works on pipes, sinks and showers. Take a half a cup of baking soda, a half a cup of salt, a half a cup of vinegar and 2 quarts of boiling water. Just before turning in for the night, pour the solution of salt and baking soda down the drain. Then add the vinegar and let it sit for about a minute. Then add the 2 quarts of boiling water. If your sink has a garbage disposal, there is another trick that you can try. Take an ice cube tray and fill it half vinegar and half water. You need to have the water because vinegar by itself will not freeze. Be sure to let everyone in the household know that certain trays have vinegar in them. Once the trays of vinegar ice are frozen, turn on your garbage disposal and add the ice cubes. Vinegar is an acid which is great for cleaning garbage disposal as well as the pipes. If you absolutely cannot stand the smell of vinegar, you can just freeze a regular tray of ice cubes, pour them down your garbage disposal and then add a lemon that is sliced up. You will be surprised that your disposal and your entire kitchen smells amazing.

You can try all these great home cleaning tricks to keep your drain clean and to prevent it from clogging. Just remember that there are some things that are not made to go down any pipes or drains.

Granny's Best Carpet Cleaning Secrets: Removing Stains With Vinegar

One of the best uses for vinegar is removing tough stains from carpets.

Removing stains with vinegar is perhaps one of the most effective and environmentally friendly ways to get even the toughest set-in grimy spots from a carpet. As a young pup growing up in the shadow of the Rocky Mountains, I can remember my Granny using some of her time-tested, old-school methods for keeping a spotless and almost sterile-clean house. Many of those old-time recipes included using vinegar cleaners for just about any room in her house. One of her favorites was using vinegar to clean stains from her carpets. She was a loving soul but one of the things that Granny hated most was stains in her carpets. With so many grandkids running through her house every day, there were a lot of spots, stains and dirt.

How to Remove Stains with Vinegar

While it may not lift out every type of stain from your carpet, using white distilled vinegar as cleaner will take out just about any stain. Here's how you do it: First, dissolve 2 tablespoons of salt in about 1/2 cup of white distilled vinegar. Rub the solution into the carpet stain, let the area dry and then simply vacuum. If you have a larger stained area, try mixing 2 tablespoons of borax into the vinegar-salt mixture and treat in the same way.

Spot Treatment with Vinegar as Cleaner

You can also make a spray-on spot treatment by mixing 1 part vinegar with 5 parts water. Get a second spray bottle and fill it with a solution of 5 parts water and 1 part non-sudsy ammonia. To treat spot stains in your carpet, soak a cloth with the vinegar solution and saturate the spot or stain. Let it sit for a few minutes and blot dry with a clean cloth. Now spray the ammonia solution on the spot or stain and blot dry. Repeat this alternating treatment until the spot is gone.

What Granny Knew About Removing Stains with Vinegar

Some folks tried to encourage Granny to start using some of the commercial cleaning products available from the local grocery store. They claimed these new-fangled cleaners would save her time and help Granny to get the job done quicker. Granny simply smiled and went on doing as she had done for so many years. Perhaps she knew more than she was telling about these natural cleaning methods, or maybe she was just stubborn. Either way, those old-fashioned ways of cleaning are making a big comeback in this era of environmental awareness.

Simple Carpet Maintenance - Take Your Shoes Off in the House!

I get asked all the time by my clients about ways to maintain their carpets at home. There's an EASY answer to this question. We're not talking about stain removing techniques (although that's important), we're not recommending the proper vacuum cleaner (which I will discuss in an upcoming blog), but it's a very simple preventative measure. Take your shoes off before you walk in your home! There are very simple reasons why taking your shoes off upon entering you home is crucial to the cleanliness and longevity of your carpet.

Dirt, asphalt, pesticides, and all sorts of bacteria and toxins are living on the bottoms of your shoes. Those can easily be tracked into your home onto your carpet. *Think of your child playing on the floor - not a good vision, huh?

Aside from contaminates on the soles of your shoes being tracked into your home, another reason you should NOT wear your shoes in the house is because dirty shoes can cause those darker pathways to appear around where you walk the most. You've seen them- Those dark paths from one door to another door... Those dark paths are affectionately known as traffic areas. Most think that traffic areas are mainly dirt that deposits on in the carpet from repeated use. That's only partially correct... Traffic areas are in part, abrasions within your carpet fibers. Think about this... 90% of carpeting today is made from synthetic fiber. Synthetic fibers are mostly derived from plastic. Ask yourself this question... What happens to a plastic bottle when you continually rub dirt on the clear plastic? Yep, the plastic becomes muddy in appearance (even if it's perfectly clean) due to abrasions in the plastic. That's exactly what happens in the traffic areas of your home. Shoes will grind in dirt and debris into the carpet fibers, giving it a dull and dark appearance. No amount of cleaning will improve the look of those carpet fibers.

By NOT wearing shoes in your home, significantly decreases the traffic area affect and ultimately keep your carpets looking new, longer.

So... this is your excuse to find the most comfy bunny slippers that you can find and wear them proudly (inside of your home, of course...).

If you insist on wearing shoes inside the home, please at take this advice... Go to your local retailer and grab a few doorway entry mats. Place those mats at every point of entry into your home. Last, but not least; use them!

Stay Green Folks!

Benefits of Hiring a Reliable Residential Home Cleaning Service

There are various cleaning companies out there that claim to offer quality services but few that come through with this promise. It is therefore important to hire a reliable residential home cleaning service. However, many people wonder what benefit there is to hiring a professional cleaning service. Wouldn't it be better to hire an individual or contractor at a lower price?

In today's society, security is one of our highest concerns. Watching the news is enough to discourage us from allowing strangers into our homes. When you are considering hiring a professional cleaner, this will be one of your greatest concerns. You need to trust the cleaners to some degree to allow them into your home. This is not easy when hiring an individual.

Using a professional service will take this burden off your shoulders. The service will allow you to hire a professional that has been checked thoroughly. Many reliable services carry out background checks that include checking criminal history records, employment records and other such files. This process can be tedious to an individual who may end up doing a half baked job of it. You can therefore rest assured that your safety has been taken into account by the professional company.

Quality is also a great concern when hiring cleaners. Whether it is an individual or a group of cleaners, you will want them to do a thorough job. It is therefore important to get references from previous employers to determine the kind of quality the cleaner will give you. However, this process is also a tedious one. Professional residential home cleaning services will carry out the reference verification for you and ensure that the cleaners have been trained to high standards. You can therefore rest assured that you will be getting a professional cleaner.

A reliable residential home cleaning service also ensures that all its employees are insured. This will ensure that you are compensated adequately in case of any accidents or loss of items resulting from the cleaner's activities. You will not have to make a claim from your own insurance.

Insurance is also important for the cleaner. In case an accident occurs while cleaning your home, the cleaner will be fully compensated by the company. You will not have to worry about having to cover any medical fees or paying the cleaner while recovering. The insurance of the cleaning service will do all that. It is therefore important to check the insurance cover of the company before you hire them.

Hiring professional residential home cleaning services will give you peace of mind and allow you to create time for other activities. You will have a clean home and lots of free time for your family and other projects.

Surviving Home Disasters, Major or Minor: Fire/Water Restoration and Other Pro Services Can Help

Damage from fires, floods, and other incidents don't have to mean your home is beyond repair. Turn to fire, water, and other restoration professionals to preserve your house and weather the storm with minimum loss and maximum peace of mind.

Your house is your biggest investment, but it's very often so much more than just an inhabitable savings account. It's also your home, the place were lives are lived and memories are made. Which is why when disaster strikes, the devastation can be doubly costly. When your property has suffered from a fire, flood, or other incident, major or minor, you need to act quickly to not only preserve the structure in terms of a financial investment but also to restore your house into a home that's safe and welcoming for you and your family.

Water Damage Restoration
Natural disaster, roof leaks, burst pipes: no matter how the water entered your home, when you're dealing with a flood, you've got a real mess on your hands. It might be easy to just throw your hands up and call your property a total loss, especially with both fire and water damage, but instead of giving up on your home, bring in a professional flood restoration company. You'll be amazed at what these experts can do to evacuate standing water, dry out absorbed moisture, and stop the damage in its tracks. You may have to replace soggy drywall and refinish your floors, but when you call for water damage restoration in time, you'll be surprised at how well this professional team can contain the damage and stop the problems from compounding with concerns like mold growth and wood rot.

Fire Damage Restoration
When you have a fire in your home, you typically end up with the double trouble of both damage from the fire itself and damage from the water used to extinguish the flames. However, even these dual concerns don't always mean the space isn't salvageable. Modern technology offers a full range of fire restoration techniques including structural drying, smoke and soot removal, and odor elimination. Fire/water restoration companies in your local area have the necessary tools and training to tackle these problems and help you minimize losses.

Additional Services
In addition to the large-scale drying and cleaning services offered by nearly all fire and water damage restoration companies, you may also find yourself in the market for specialized services such as mold removal, carpet cleaning, or tile and grout cleaning. These additional options can help you to clean away evidence of the incident from walls and floors that are in good enough shape to preserve. By revitalizing these finishes, instead of tearing them out and starting over, you're able to help keep the cost of the job down while still returning your home to a clean, beautiful condition.

For major home disasters such as extensive flooding or serious fires, you might want to ask around until you find a disaster restoration company that is also a general contractor. That way, if/when your project requires rebuilding walls, reinstalling flooring, and other major changes, you won't have to deal with juggling multiple service providers. Working with a general building contractor from the get-go who also specializes in fire and flood restoration can help make your life just a little easier during this stressful time.

Benefits of Using Carpet Shampoo Machines With Hot Water Cleaning Features

Choosing the right type of carpet shampoo machines can cut down your carpet cleaning time dramatically. Carpet cleaners are used not only for spot cleaning and general maintenance of carpets at home but when large stretches of carpets and huge numbers of rugs need to be cleaned quickly and efficiently in a commercial establishment. The sad story is that while there are a number of carpet cleaners available on the market, only a handful of them are designed with the customer's convenience in mind.

Most carpet shampoo machines come with powerful and impressive cleaning powers. However, the biggest downside is that they use a lot of water which increases drying time. It can take as much as 24 long hours for even a small carpet to dry completely. Another disadvantage is that the carpets become perfect breeding places for mold and mildew as it remains damp for a prolonged period.

Machines with Advanced Features for Comprehensive Cleaning

Carpet cleaners with advanced cleaning features are now available from reputable dealers. These machines have changed the way rugs are cleaned for both residential and commercial types. Steam carpet cleaners are used extensively to clean commercial carpets but are not recommended for cleaning of heat sensitive carpets and rugs because the extreme high temperature of the steam can damage the sensitive threads of the rugs and damage them permanently. Non heated carpet shampoo machines are ideal for cleaning such carpets.

Cleaning machines with heated output improves the efficiency of the cleaning process and also speeds up the cleaning task significantly. The best heated cleaning machines are designed to deliver temperature output of up to 210°F and can remove stubborn stains and grime from commercial rugs quickly. Carpet shampoo machines also come with low flow technology which reduces the use of water drastically. This eliminates the risk of mold formation and foul odor as the rug gets dried in as little as two hours.

Hot Water Carpet Cleaners for Quick, Meticulous Cleaning

It is important to use the right type of carpet cleaning machines for different types of cleaning tasks. Rug steam cleaners for instance, are used to clean high end rugs that are heat sensitive and cannot withstand the extreme heat from powerful steam cleaners. Carpet cleaning machines equipped with heating features are perfect for cleaning rugs and carpets with heat sensitive materials and threads.

If you are looking for rug steam cleaners that clean your rugs, quickly and more efficiently than conventional carpet cleaning equipment, it is advisable to go for hot water carpet cleaners because they have the capability to clean the most stubborn of stains and grime from carpets comprehensively.

Carpet shampoo machines, that offer hot water cleaning, are able to break the bond between the dirt and the surface to which they are attached. Cleaning with conventional carpet cleaners will not break this strong bond and leave traces of dirt behind even after the rugs are cleaned. The high temperature output helps dissolve the dirt easily after which they can be easily removed from the rug surface.

Rug shampoo machines from reputable dealers can help you clean any type of carpets, rugs and upholstery with a greater degree of efficacy. They are also convenient to handle.

How Should I Clean My Carpets?

Carpet cleaning like cooking can be done using different recipes and getting satisfactory results. Lets look at some of the methods currently being used. A skilled carpet cleaner can get the job done using almost any machine or method. Hot water extraction commonly called steam cleaning uses the hottest water possible to get the soil out of a carpet. Pressurized hot water is sprayed onto the carpet and immediately vacuumed off. The pressurized water provides agitation. Water can be heated to as high as 300 degrees f in the carpet machine. After the water passes through hose and wand and hits the carpet it can be as hot as 120 to 250 degrees f. The more suction the carpet machine has the better. The dirty water is vacuumed into a tank for latter disposal. Pre-spraying the carpet and agitating heavily soiled areas with a carpet rake helps get the carpet cleaner. It is beneficial to rinse the carpet with an acidic rinse to return the carpet to a neutral state. Also air movers can speed drying.

During steam cleaning if the furniture is moved and the carpet is cleaned, the following should be done to protect the carpet when the furniture is put back into place on the damp carpet. Foam blocks or plastic squares can be put under the furniture legs to prevent varnish or rust stains from developing.

Bonnet cleaning or absorbent pad cleaning is used when a carpet is not too heavily soiled. For example between steam or restorative cleanings. This is referred to as maintenance cleaning. Some popular methods of bonnet cleaning mix club soda (carbon dioxide and water) with a bonnet cleaning solution and spray it onto the carpet as a mist. This is not technically dry cleaning but it is a lot drier than steam cleaning. A cotton pad is rotated on top of the carpet using a low speed floor machine at 175 rpm. The pad is lubricated by the cleaning solution and picks up soil. The pad is then soaked and rung out in a bucket of bonnet cleaning solution. The pad can be used again until it is filled with soil. At this point a new pad is put into service. The bonnet or absorbent pad can be use again after washing.

The bonnet cleaning method can be used in conjunction with steam cleaning to improve the overall cleaning. Soil which can wick back in heavily soiled areas can be pulled from the carpet fibers while helping the drying process.

The cleaning methods just described are just 2 of the more popular methods currently being used in 1 form or another. Shop around and experiment and find the one that pleases you. Happy cleaning!

How a Home Cleaning Service Can Change Your Life

There are countless ways in which to improve your life. You can lose weight, take a class, learn something new, or reduce your work hours. You can make more money, find a better partner, or start working out. But one of the best ways you can change your life is reduce the amount of time you spend doing things other than living it. Let's face it, very few people see vacuuming and mopping as chores they would rather be doing than anything else. But freeing up your time is only one way in which a home cleaning service can change your life. Here are some more benefits to taking the plunge.

Get Rid of the Clutter

A dirty room is the love of every teenage boy and the bane of every mother. But clutter is more than just something to be embarrassed about. While there is the occasional story about a genius that can't do his best work in anything less than a complete pigsty, the majority of people can function far more efficiently in a clean space. Even if you aren't worried about getting work done in your house, it is difficult for many people to simply relax when they look around and see an unmade bed here and a messy kitchen counter there. A home cleaning service will make sure you can concentrate on the things you want to do, even if it's nothing more important than watching TV.

An Inviting Abode

It doesn't matter whether you work in an immaculate office all day or a sloppy barn; the last thing you want to come home to is a mess. A mess means more work and that isn't something you want to think about on the commute. On the other hand, a house that has been made spotless from top to bottom by a professional home cleaning service is one that extends its arms out in a warm embrace as you pull into your driveway. You remember the wonderful smell of baking cookies when you walked into your grandmother's house? It can be like that again, except the smell might be lemon-scented cleaner instead of gingerbread.

Keeping Up With The Chores

Even if you are fairly good about keeping up with a regular tidying schedule, you probably have a tendency to let the big jobs slack for a while. If you let enough of them slack, you will be forced to set aside a weekend every now and then to really clean from floor to ceiling. If you have a home cleaning service keeping up with all of the necessary chores, you don't have to ever lose another weekend to such a mundane task.

Maid Cleaning Before a Walkthrough

Whether renting a home or an apartment, maid services can be helpful before a final walkthrough. You want to leave the place in great shape to ensure that you get your security deposit back and move on to your next residence. The property manager is going to expect that the entire place is cleaned from top to bottom before ending the lease.

Clearing Everything Out

Obviously there is no reason to have a maid come in if the property has not been cleaned out. Even leaving behind a couch or a dresser can make the cleaning service less effective. Make sure the clothes are out of the closet and all of the kitchen cabinets are empty. Before the team comes in to clean, ask someone else to walk through every room looking for anything that may have been left behind. It often helps to have new eyes go over the area.

Remember that as people walk in and out of the place, they could be tracking all sorts of things in and out of the house. The carpets could be soiled with this going on, so wait until everyone is out to bring in a maid. Their final task will be to clean the carpets on the way out, leaving everything clean and ready for the next set of residents.

Making the Arrangements

Scheduling the service in advance reduces the chances of a last minute issue. If the walkthrough is set up for a Saturday, consider having the property cleaned on Wednesday or Thursday if possible. If things don't meet up to a resident's expectations, there is time to work things out before the property owner arrives.

It may or may not be necessary for someone to let the maid into the home or apartment. Some companies also require that the customer be available when the team is done with the work. Payment should be made at this time and work can be inspected.

Cost Analysis

Is it worth bringing in a professional team to handle the cleaning before the walkthrough? The answer will be different for every person. If the security deposit is sizable, the cost of cleaning could be looked at as an investment. Others just do not have the time to clean the property because they are in the process of moving.

Shop around for a local company that offers the best deal for the services provided. Many offer discounts and coupons on a regular basis. Keep an eye out for the savings well in advance. Some even offer special cleaning services for those entering or vacating an apartment or house.

Get Carpet Ink Stains Out of the Way

Imagine for a moment that you are working on some documents and your pen gets broken, spilling a considerable amount of ink on your shirt. This is one of those things that can really make a person go off-the-rails. The most frustrating stain would be an ink stain on light-colored pants, t-shirt, shirt or carpet. I am certain that many carpet-owners have experienced how difficult it is to get rid of an ink stain that ended up on their carpet. Indeed, if you let an ink stain stay for a while, it will become more difficult to clean and could damage the fiber of your carpet.

Though it is not easy to clean ink off a light-colored carpet, it is not impossible. Actually, to get the best out of your carpet cleaning efforts, you need some helpful tips on how to go about it. There are several steps to follow if you must get rid of an ink stain on your carpet.

First, you must ensure that the stain is treated immediately it gets on the carpet. This is the first treatment you should give your carpet. This remedial action prevents the stain from becoming more difficult to clean. When you let the ink stain sit longer than it should, then you are in for a difficult carpet cleaning session. Remember, the best moment for your carpet cleaning magic to work on an ink stain is immediately it occurs.

Secondly, you would want to start by getting a neat cloth, preferably cotton-made. You will throw some alcohol on this piece of cloth. The best type of alcohol to address this situation would be Isopropyl. After the alcohol has soaked in, use the said cloth to blot out the stain from the affected area. The ink will slowly move from the carpet to the cloth. This step should be repeated several times. You must repeat this process until there is no longer any ink on the alcohol-soaked-cloth when rubbed on the affected area.

However, if this process does not completely get rid of the ink, get some carpet cleaning product from the nearest store and use it on the stain. After step one, the stain will be greatly reduced and this second step should help even more. As with the alcohol, apply the product on a clean cloth and blot the affected area. After two to four times of blotting, the stain should no longer be visible.

Indeed, remember to rinse the area you have just treated with clean water so that no residue should accumulate on the carpet.

To conclude, it is very important to have a few carpet cleaning tips under your sleeves so that your carpet cleaning endeavors would yield much.

Do you wait until the carpet starts to look dirty before calling a professional carpet cleaning company to perform 'restorative carpet cleaning?

Waiting for a carpet to look dirty before calling in the cleaners is what most people do but, is that leaving it too late?

When you leave a carpet so long that it looks dirty, lots of permanent damage has already occurred. You will have been walking on a carpet, with lots of trapped dirt, cutting away at the fibres, causing premature wear. This same dirt will have ground its way into the fibres and permanently changed the colour of the carpet.

Leaving the carpet to look dirty before cleaning means, your carpet has already worn down and permanently discoloured. How can you prevent this from happening?

Professional carpet cleaning is the only way to guarantee removal of deep down dirt, that causes wear and discolouration, but how often should you perform professional carpet cleaning?

If you leave carpet cleaning to once a year, you can expect the level of appearance to be as follows

Is It Necessary to Go for Roof Cleaning?

All of us know that the roof is one of the most important parts of a home or commercial building. In addition to keeping out water, a roof contributes to the look of a home and helps with a structure's energy efficiency and comfort. A well-installed roof is meant to last decades, unless of course it pre-maturely deteriorates due to environmental conditions. This is when it might be well-worth investigating, getting the roof professionally inspected and cleaned.

As a home or building's roof ages, problems can crop up due to exposure to moisture, wind and sun. This leads to the accumulation of dirt and grime, algae, moss, fungus and other organic growths. If left unchecked, these issues slowly degrade the roof material and lead to damage and ultimately roofing material failure. Regular cleaning and maintenance keeps damage at bay and significantly extends the life of the roof. It is generally much more economical to regularly inspect and if necessary clean a roof, then to wait until it needs repair. For in addition to the roof repair itself, one may find themselves needing to repair rotting interior portions of the building due to moisture exposure. Some preventative maintenance can save significant pounds later on.

Each climate condition brings on different potential issues. With the UK's frequent rain and moist atmosphere things are more often damp. Exposure to wet conditions in and of itself isn't necessarily the biggest factor in organic growth accumulation, however. A home or building that is surrounded by trees is more at risk: shade from trees block sun exposure which keeps the roof moist; trees spread a higher than normal number of algae spores carried by wind; and leaf accumulation can clog gutters and roof valleys leading to water retention. All of these situations contribute to faster roof deterioration and damage. In addition to keeping the roof clean to add to its useful lifespan, a clean roof also makes a home look much more inviting and eye-pleasing. This is key component to maintain a home or building's long-term value.

Whether cleaning a roof one's self or using a professional, it is important to use the right approach for the roofing material on the building. Amongst the common methods used, cleaning solutions are often applied to kill and loosen moss and algae that accumulates on the roof. A sturdy brushing of the surface followed by a fresh water rinse leaves shingles clean. In some cases another solution is applied to help inhibit future organic growth. For more stubborn organic growth and grime, a power washing is often recommended. With this method a high-pressure jet of water removes material. This approach is best left to professionals as too high a pressure can damage the roof or poor technique can force water under shingles.

One must also be cautious about the type of cleaning solutions applied. It is important that the chemical ingredients in the cleaning fluid be appropriate for the roofing material. Also of more consideration these days is the potential environmental hazard associated various ingredients. A diluted solution of chlorine bleach is a tried and true method; however the application and run-off must be properly handled to avoid streaking and staining. In consideration of the environment, many now prefer organic solutions or opt to simply forgo cleansers at all and rely on brushing or power washing.

No matter what one's personal preference though, it is important to give attention and care to the roof. Regular inspection and cleaning by a professional firm will certainly pay off in the long run.

5 Ways to Cut Your Household Costs - Stain Removal

There is a huge diversity of specialist cleaning products available to tackle specific stains encountered on clothing or upholstery. Finding the appropriate product for a specific stain cannot only be time consuming, but also expensive. Most people do not realise that by utilising items commonly found in the kitchen cupboard at home, they can avoid spending money on expensive specialist stain removal products. Here are five items that are great at removing stains:

Bleach:
Most people have a bottle of bleach in the home. Bleach uses a process called "oxidisation" to remove stains from fabric. Bleach is particularly effective on white cotton items. A little dilute bleach can be dabbed on a stubborn stain on a white cotton shirt before washing. White cotton or linen items that have become discoloured over time can be rejuvenated by washing them in bleach diluted in plenty of hot water, or soaking for a few hours before washing the items as normal. The combination of bleach and sunlight is a powerful stain remover, so items treated with bleach should be hung outside in the sunshine to achieve the best stain removal effect.

Care must be taken with bleach, as it is not suitable for use on all fabrics and should never be used on delicate fabrics or dark coloured materials.

Hairspray:
Hairspray is a great stain remover for ink stains. If a child gets ink onto upholstery, the area can simply be sprayed lightly with hairspray before wiping gently with a cloth. It also works well on shirts if a pen has leaked into the pocket. A spray containing alcohol works best. A damp rag should be placed under the stain and then the hairspray should be sprayed directly onto the stained area. By blotting with a damp cloth, the stain should be lifted out of the fabric.

Methylated Spirits:
Methylated spirit is a strong solvent, and good at removing a variety of stains from fabrics. It is especially good at removing greasy food stains or stains from cosmetics, such as lipstick. The stain should be dabbed with spirit and left for five minutes before rinsing in warm water. This method should only be used on colourfast fabrics. Methylated spirit is also useful for removing felt tip pen stains.

Washing Up Liquid/Soap:
For everyday stains, the simple action of rubbing the area with a little soap or washing up liquid can be enough to break up the stain and allow it to be washed away easily in the laundry. Soap is also particularly effective on felt tip pen stains and bloodstains. Hair dye splashed on fabric is best treated with a cup of warm water containing a good squeeze of washing up liquid. Soap is also effective at removing lipstick stains from clothing.

White Vinegar:
White vinegar has a variety of cleaning applications in the home and is a fantastic stain remover. This is because the acetic acid is able to cut through grease and dirt. The best way to use white vinegar is to dilute it and put it in a spray bottle for pre-treating items before washing, such as grubby cuffs and sleeves on shirts or the underarm areas of garments. Items can also be soaked in dilute white vinegar before washing. White vinegar is also effective at removing mildew stains from clothing and shower curtains.

As you can see, many effective stain removal products can be found in the home, simply by looking in the kitchen and bathroom cupboards. These basic items can tackle a variety of commonly encountered stains, minimizing the need to purchase expensive chemical stain removal products.

Before You Sign the Lease, Call a Mold Testing Company

When it comes to purchasing a home or renting an apartment, it is very important that you find out whether your potential home has a problem with mold. No one wants to live in a place where there is a life threatening problem with air quality. Even though you may not think it is that serious, simply inhaling spores can cause some serious respiratory problems later on. If you have children and pets that are going to be living with you, you want to make sure that you are moving into a healthy environment. Many owners, real estate agents and management companies will not give you a definite answer on whether or not mold is present. This is why you should leave the inspection and removal up to a certified mold testing company.

No one is saying you should have every home you are looking at should be tested, but any place you are very serious about should be looked at. Mold testing every home you like can be a bit expensive if you are not willing to weed out some of the homes yourself. Here are some things you should look for that can signal whether or not that home or apartment has a problem with mold.

Do you remember your mother flushing the toilets and looking at the pipes of any place she was interested in? There was a specific reason she did this even though she may have looked silly to you as a child. Pipes that are leaking are a sign of a potential mold problem. Look under the sinks, flush the toilets and take a look at the pipes in the basement. If you see any sign of leakage or moisture, this home may not be safe for you and your family.

Smell the air all throughout the home. If you smell a stale, musty or mildew odor, there may be some spore growth going on where you can't see it. Turn on the A/C. A lot of times mold will grow where there is moisture and the HVAC system is a big breeding ground. If you smell mildew, especially after running the air conditioner for a few moments, move on to the next home on your list.

Be on the lookout for cracked or peeling paint. Also be on the lookout for walls and ceilings that are discolored. These are all signs of an impending mold problem. If you see any rust or condensation, run don't walk out of that place.

Of course, if you see a place that you really want to purchase or lease and you suspect that there is a mold problem, you can always hire a reputable mold testing company to come and investigate. They will be able to tell you if the infestation is mild enough so it can be treated or if the infestation is so severe that the home is not safe for anyone. If you take the proper precautions now, you can avoid a lifetime of health conditions, enormous medical bills and loss of investment.

Ionized Water for Effective Cleaning - No Chemicals Needed

It has been said that water is life. This is a basic and undeniable truth. Without water, life as we know it can not be. You need water for just about everything. Our own bodies need water to sustain the countless metabolic reactions that go on all the time and we need water for cooking and cleaning as well. No wonder a large percentage of our bodies is actually water! However, several environmental factors make it difficult for water to maintain certain properties necessary for its different uses. For this reason, ways have been devised to make water even more useful by ionizing it. A lot has been said about the benefits of ionized alkaline water. But what is the ionized alkaline water? Ionized water is liquid that has undergone a process known as ionization. By the use of appliances called ionizer machine, we can get both alkaline and acidic ionized liquid. Ionized liquid can be used both for cleaning and drinking.

A water ionizer is an appliance capable of ionizing and separating water into alkaline and acidic streams through a process called electrolysis. Ionized alkaline water is better known for its benefits from drinking as it helps the body to maintain alkaline levels and to neutralize excess acids. It also enhances metabolic reactions and the removal of waste, acids and other toxins that may have been inappropriately retained by the body. This, in its own unique way, is a kind of internal "cleaning". Most people also know that ionized acidic water can be used in managing most common skin conditions including treatment and nourishment of the scalp. However, what remains unknown to most users is that ionized water can also be used for many other household purposes.

Ionized water, particularly ionized acidic water, is great for cleaning kitchen surfaces. Strong acidic water will kill most germs and bacteria on contact. It's acidic properties are vital, not only for cleaning, but disinfecting surfaces as well. Ionized water contains no chemical additives and when used for cleaning, it will clean and sanitize as well.

On the other hand, ionized alkaline water is not used entirely for drinking only. It can be used for cleaning as well. Strong alkaline water can be used for removing tough stains from fabrics. When soaked in strong alkaline water, the same properties it uses in expelling toxins from the human body will be used to remove dirt and tough stains from fabrics.

When used for cleaning, this water can be used to clean just about anything. It's cleaning functions can not only be restricted to sanitizing and disinfecting surfaces and fabrics. You can also use ionized alkaline water for cleaning and storing fruits and vegetables. It has been proved that when cleaned with alkaline ionized water, fruits and vegetables will retain their freshness and tenderness for longer.

In conclusion, ionized water is not only suitable for cleaning and drinking, but it is also a green way to keep your home clean, safe and healthy. It's a worthy investment.

From the Mouths of Maids: Health Risks of a Messy Home

When life gets busy and hectic, parts of a person's normal routine have to be skimped on. There are only so many hours in a day, and even the most organized have to cut some corners now and again. Often times the chores around the home are the first to be neglected, especially without the help of maids. Dishes pile up in the sink and laundry goes unattended when things get too fast paced. While a little untidiness can be harmless, recent studies show that a messy or dirty household can negatively affect the health of you and your family.

For some, a cluttered house can lead to stress. When clothes are scattered about the floor and dishes are piled on the kitchen counter, life at home seems a little more chaotic. Studies have shown that high blood pressure is linked to individuals whose homes have become domestic disaster areas. Patients surveyed were found to have increased stress levels and blood pressure, but not while at home. Most of the patients' stress actually came from anticipating doing the cleaning and not having the time to do so. By setting aside a little extra time for cleaning or enlisting the help of maids, high-strung individuals can eliminate one of the stressors that leads them to discomfort.

Too much clutter around the house also creates falling hazards. Households with children or elderly are especially at risk, though an unlucky person of any age could fall victim to a stray object in the dark at night. If your house has multiple stories a staircase can become a serious danger when left unattended to. Confining your dirty clothes to a laundry hamper can easily keep your floor space clear, and a little extra time spent putting your groceries or purchases when you get home will go a long way. Spend some time determining where all of your possessions belong. A little organization ahead of time means that you won't have to decide what to do about your clutter when you're low on time. Bringing maids in for a weekly visit can also keep your belongings neatly tucked away and walking spaces open.

Of course, a house left unattended to is a safe haven for germs. Food left out after meals and uncollected garbage are breeding grounds for harmful bacteria that cause sickness. Without the regular cleaning and upkeep that maids are used to, the surfaces and basins in your home will turn against you. Dishes left in sinks are prone to growing colonies of E. coli and salmonella, while infectious bacteria like staphylococcus are fond of bathtubs. These infections aren't hard to prevent, but many Americans don't realize the danger because these threats are invisible.

An unkempt home can cause health risks of all kinds, but a little extra time or planning can go a long way in bringing peace to your hectic life. A little planning for your home's organization and perhaps some help from a few maids will keep you feeling better and able to focus on what's most important in your life.

How to Get Rid of Clutter on Tables and Counters to Live an Organized and Decluttered Lifestyle

Flat surfaces can be a blessing and a curse. Isn't it nice to see a cleaned off table - just think of all the things we could do; we could set the table for a big family meal, we could sit and use it for crafts, we could let children use it for their homework or drawings, there are so many possibilities! Unfortunately as soon as we have a flat surface cleared we usually start putting things back onto it. It's almost like the side table, kitchen counter, entryway table, coffee table, bathroom counter, and every other flat surface has a clutter magnet on it! There's no arguing here - keeping these surfaces clear is tough for anyone. A good way to deal with these is to go through the normal decluttering process and get to the clean surface. Once you have done that take a look at what you want and what you like on that surface. Does it have a lamp that you use? Is there a picture that you want to display? Figure out what you like the best and how many items this is - we want to limit the number to something reasonable, but we also want to be comfortable with what we choose. Once we have this figured out you will know how many things should be there. When you start to see how this can help you maintain a decluttered environment this should become second nature.

If we let some things sneak back onto a surface, don't worry too much about it. Set a time when you will go over the area and pick things up and put them back where they belong. We can't have a spotless and totally organized house one hundred percent of the time - we would go crazy even trying! The idea is to get used to regularly keeping things under control. This might mean putting your books away every night, cleaning up when you get home from work, or taking Saturday afternoon to pick up after yourself. It is certainly a give and take - you don't want to spend so much time picking up that you start hating spending the time doing it, but you don't want to wait so long that it becomes a huge project again! We want to find what works best for ourselves. It takes time and a little trial and error. After a few weeks it should be fairly evident what works best for you. If by the end of three weeks you can't seem to get a good system going on a regular schedule I suggest setting aside five or ten minutes three nights a week to pick up and clean off your surfaces. Write them down, make a checklist, or set an alarm - just make sure that you are following through and sticking to a schedule. It is like many other habits - you have to keep doing them for it to be effective, the first few weeks can be the most trying but it does become much easier after that.

Simple and Effective Rust Removal

Wikipedia describes rust remover as "chemical solutions or primers that can be applied directly to a rusty surface on steel or iron alloy surfaces to convert initial and residual rust to barrier and adherent chemical compounds onto the surface. These chemical compounds interact with iron oxides and also protect the surface from further corrosion process. These are able to develop a protective film on the metal surface that protect against rust." Thankfully, for home improvers and DIY-ers like me we don't need to know all the science behind the process to know that rust remover just works!

Almost everyone has experienced rust in some capacity. Most of the time we see rust and we are then disappointed, thinking that it will require lots of work and the use of harsh chemicals. However, now there are products in the market that are safe and very effective. Before you buy any product, be sure to keep a few things in mind. First, you want to make sure it is safe. This is a product that you are most likely going to use in your home, perhaps near children or pets. There are many products that are non-toxic and safe. Commercial products that are harmful or scary to use are a thing of the past. It should also be something that is safe on a variety of materials. The item you may be cleaning could be made from multiple metals or finishes. Find a rust remover that is safe for metals as well as plastics or vinyl. You'll also want a product that will prevent rust in the future. Choose one that will inhibit rust for at least 4 weeks.

When you're ready to de-rust you should first clean your item. You'll want to make sure it's free from oil and dirt. Follow the manufacturer's instructions when working on the rust blemish. Some products require soaking, anywhere from 20 minutes to 24 hours, while others require circular spraying or wiping. As your working on your item be sure to be checking often, this will help you get the best results in the least amount of time.

Home repair stores and the internet are great places to purchase rust remover. However, going to the home store with its stocked shelves can often leave you a little overwhelmed and confused. For those who prefer to conduct research and shop from home, products like wholesale Evaporust may be a good option.

Hopefully, you're now ready to tackle that DIY project you've been putting off. Rust removal can be an easy, effective way to restore an otherwise overlooked treasure.
